St. Mary’s School, Dwarka is a Minority Institution, which was founded in 1995 by St. Mary’s Education Society.
Our journey began from a small tenement at Amberhai village, when Dwarka was virtually barren with predominant rural gentry. The fledglings were mostly first generation learners. Under these circumstances the task of education was indeed challenging. It was not all about reading and writing but also to reinforce their core values. In keeping with its motto ‘Tamso ma Jyotirgamaya’, and its commitment to an integrated education system, our curriculum has been clearly etched.
As the school flourished and became larger ,the new building shifted to the newly built premises at Sector 19, Dwarka in 2003. The School is situated in a pollution free environment with huge playgrounds and now caters to students up to Std. XII in the Science, Commerce and Humanities Streams.
In this fast paced world, children today face various challenges. To equip them mentally, emotionally and physically, it has become important for the school to sensitize their impressionable minds. The needs of the differently abled and economically deprived students have been an important facet. The school follows an inclusive policy with students from all strata of society as well as children with special needs being integrated included into the main stream. The two special wings - ‘Aasmaan’ and ‘Khula Aasmaan’, further facilitate inclusion. The philanthropic ethos of the school has also led to social welfare initiatives like adult literacy and vocational training.
Education, here at St. Mary’s Dwarka, is not classroom oriented. It is activity-based learning. Well planned curriculum by highly qualified teachers, makes our students confident, disciplined and motivated. Learning in primary classes i.e. till Std. V is more child centred and activity based. Apart from regular subjects like English, Hindi, Maths, E.V.S and G.K., subjects such as Dance, Music, Art and Craft, Drawing, Aerobics, Yoga,S.U.P.W and Physical Education are taught.
St.Mary’s has consciously set itself to remain true to the Founder’s will. The zeal of the teaching staff and the managements’ farsightedness, interpreted in modern terms, has been very effective in providing holistic education for the boys and girls.
Late Mrs. Sara Mathew, the founder of the school along with Late Wg. Cdr. Mathew, the Chairman of the Management Committee had been a great source of encouragement for St. Mary’s, Dwarka.
They are greatly missed by all whose lives they touched in one way or the other.
